GCLS is committed to providing first-rate educational opportunities in sapphic (wlw and trans/non-binary) literature. From our scholarships to our payment plans to the annual conference, the GCLS has something for everyone, accessible to everyone. Learning, growing, and sharing in our diverse community is the foundation of this organization. The Education Department offers master classes, mentoring, and a nine-month Writing Academy.

Writing Academy 1: Skill Building
Writing Academy 1: Skill Building
Learn the foundations of novel writing, including point of view, natural dialogue, and creating believable, compelling characters. You’ll receive thoughtful feedback on your first 10,000 words from an established author within the GCLS sapphic novel-writing community.
Writing Academy 2: Beyond the Basics
Writing Academy 2: Beyond the Basics
Build on your craft by exploring key writing elements and practical revision skills. With a solid grasp of the basics, you’ll work alongside peers to reflect on and refine your work in progress, while receiving in-depth feedback on 10,000 words from an established author in the GCLS sapphic novel-writing community.
Writing Academy 3: The Business of Writing
Writing Academy 3: The Business of Writing
Gain confidence in marketing and promoting your completed—or nearly completed—manuscript. You’ll learn about publishing pathways, understanding your book as a product, planning an effective launch, and building a lasting readership. By the end of the course, you’ll have created a personalized marketing portfolio, reviewed and commented on by an established author in the GCLS sapphic novel-writing community.

Program Timeline and Information
Each program is comprised of approximately 15 students and uses a mix of full-time faculty and honorary guest instructors, all of whom are successfully published authors, to ensure students are getting the most up-to-date and relevant information in all classes.
Programs run from September until June and culminate in a graduation ceremony at the yearly GCLS conference.
SCHOLARSHIPS
The Golden Crown Literary Society believes in providing learning opportunities, encouragement and assistance to new and established writers in developing their craft. We provide scholarships to assist those who need financial assistance to access our Writing Academies.
