The Golden Crown Literary Awards are presented every year during the Annual Conference and recognize excellence in women-loving-women and sapphic literature.

The Goldies reward quality literature, cover design, and individuals in 19 categories, 2 popular choice categories, and 3 special categories. The Board of Directors constantly review proposals for new categories. The Goldies have been the annual event of the women-loving-women and sapphic literature calendar since 2005.

Applications for Judges for the 2023 Golden Crown Literary Awards are now open until August 24, 2022.

We’ve added a new category this year: Audiobook Narrator. Thus, we are also seeking judges to listen to nominated audiobooks and judge them according to the determined criteria. These judges will go through separate training.

You may apply to be a “reading” judge, a “narrator” judge, or BOTH. (Please note: If you are chosen as both, there is no guarantee of “overlap” between your assigned reading category and the audiobook category. The audiobook category can and will have entries from multiple genres.)

Read through the Judging information page. Once you've finished reading, click on the link at the bottom of this call to begin the application process. You will need to fill in your personal information, select five preferred categories, and agree to the terms and conditions of the Judge's Agreement.

We'll consider all interested parties fairly, equitably, and professionally. We have categories that span a vast array of genres, so there is something that should pique many interests. All categories will have at least three (3) to five (5) assigned judges.

Judging and scoring must be completed no later than April 15, 2023. No exceptions. All judges selected will be notified via email regarding category assignment(s).

All judges must attend two webinar sessions (each lasting no more than one hour) to participate in the judging process. (A third training session will be necessary if chosen as both a "reading" and a "narrator" judge.) The sessions will include the judging process, a walk-through of the evaluation forms, and how to use the online Awards Management/Judging system.

Judges and others have provided excellent feedback in previous years. You've spoken, and we've listened. Thus, as Awards Administrators, we pledge the following:

  • Barring unforeseen circumstances that are beyond our control, we will meet all posted deadlines;

  • We will provide appropriate training to judges regarding the evaluation process and the use of our online judging platform;

  • We will be available for questions concerning any aspect of the judging process;

  • All emails sent to will receive a response within 24 hours of receipt (holidays excluded). We will address questions and problems as quickly as possible and with frequent updates to the requester to ensure a clear line of communication.

Thank you for volunteering! We look forward to a fun-filled awards season, culminating in our Annual Awards Ceremony on July 1, 2023 in Denver, CO.

We are currently updating the 2023 Awards guidelines, eligibility requirements, and nomination process information. We will have more information posted in the coming weeks.

Look for a call for submissions by the end of August 2022.
