GCLS Legacy Honors
Honoring the people and works that have shaped sapphic literature

Honoring Our Legacy

Sapphic literature has a rich history, built by writers, storytellers, advocates, and community leaders who created space for our stories—often when that space was difficult to find.

Their work did more than give readers books to love. It expanded what was possible. It helped generations of readers see themselves on the page, opened doors for the writers who followed, strengthened our literary community, and ensured that sapphic stories would continue to be written, published, discovered, and celebrated.

The GCLS Legacy Honors recognize that lasting impact.

Through the Trailblazer Award, we honor individuals whose contributions have helped shape and advance sapphic literature and the community surrounding it. Through the Lee Lynch Classic Award, we recognize enduring works of sapphic literature whose significance continues beyond the time in which they were first published.

Together, these honors connect our history with our future. They celebrate the people and stories that helped bring us here, preserve their contributions for new generations, and remind us that the community we enjoy today was built by those who came before us.

Legacy is not simply what we remember. It is what we carry forward.

Nominate a Legacy Honoree

Nominations are accepted year-round. Before submitting a nomination, please review the criteria for the appropriate honor. Nominations received by December 31 will be considered for the following year’s GCLS Legacy Awards. Nominations received after that date will automatically be held for the next award cycle.

Meet the GCLS Trailblazers

Together, their work tells part of the story of sapphic literature—where we've been, how we found one another, and how our stories claimed their place in the world.

Meet the Lee Lynch Classics

These books did more than tell sapphic stories. They broke barriers, created possibilities, reflected lives too often absent from the page, and helped build the literary tradition today's writers and readers inherit.
