Conference Scholarships

Helping more voices become part of our community.

At GCLS, we believe that financial circumstances shouldn't stand in the way of connecting with the vibrant community of readers, writers, and supporters of sapphic literature.

Through the generosity of our donors, GCLS offers a limited number of scholarships to help individuals attend our annual conference. These scholarships are part of our commitment to making the Con more accessible and ensuring that a diversity of voices, perspectives, and experiences can be part of our community.

Whether you're a first-time attendee or a longtime member of our community, we encourage you to apply if financial assistance would make attending the 2027 GCLS Conference in Portland more possible.

Scholarship availability is limited, and applications will be reviewed with care and confidentiality.

We want you to be part of the story.

  • What do scholarships cover? GCLS Scholarships will cover a full access pass to the conference and may cover up to 2 night's hotel, dependent on need and fund availability.

  • Who can apply? Anyone who needs some financial assistance to attend the Con.

  • When are applications due? Applications are due December 31, 2026 and notifications will be made on or before January 31, 2027.

  • How are recipients selected? Applications are evaluated based on financial need, available funding, and the applicants' goals for attending the conference, what they hope to learn and experience, and how they envision using those experiences to support and strengthen the sapphic literary community. We are particularly interested in how applicants hope to contribute to GCLS's mission of increasing the visibility and quality of sapphic literature.

We recognize that contributions to our community take many forms, and we welcome applications from readers, writers, and literary supporters at all stages of their journeys.

  • What if I've already registered? We would prefer you wait to register if you will be applying for a scholarship. In the event that you have already registered and receive a scholarship, we will refund your paid ticket.
