ZOOM EXPLAINER

WHAT IS ZOOM?

Zoom is a cloud-based video conferencing service you can use to meet virtually with others - either by video or audio-only or both.

DO I HAVE TO PAY?

No. The Zoom software is free to download and all users can host a free meeting for up to 40 minutes. The GCLS has a premium account that allows us to host longer meetings and webinars. You do not need a paid Zoom account to watch any of our events,

WILL I BE ON CAMERA?

Our Virtual Series, Virtual Conference, D&I Listening Session, and Ask Me Anything events are all view-only, therefore your webcam will not be accessed. You will only be visible if you are a panelist or presenter. If you are simply watching an event, you will not be visible, recorded, or heard.

Zoom always asks permission before turning on your webcam or microphone.

I DON'T HAVE A WEBCAM, CAN I STILL JOIN?

Absolutely. You don't need a webcam to join any of our virtual events. You will still be able to see the panelists and speakers.

HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?

Zoom events have a live chat roll and a Q&A feature. If you simply wish to say hello then use the chat, if you have a question for the host or panelists then use the Q&A featured and this will ensure your question is highlighted to them.

HOW DO I GET ZOOM?

Go to zoom.us to sign up for free and download the software.
